Job's faith (a)

Job 1:8-11

⁸ Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?"
⁹ So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
¹⁰ Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
¹¹ But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”

Job was seen as a righteous man to God. Thus, God multiplied his lifestock by abundance. (Job 1:2-3) As such, this man of God was placed in satan's top ten most wanted list. Satan was so bold as to go to God's holy throne to approach God to challenge Him. John 1:5 says:"And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." satan went through so much pain to tempt God to destroy Job. What a man Job must be! :O satan knew he could not tempt God. But he could tempt the very vessels of God's power. That is us.

When God permitted satan to do as he wished with Job, satan caused Job's family and material goods to all die in one moment. The worst part was that fire was sent from heaven to destroy his oxen and servants. (Job 1:16).

Job had every reason to hate and curse God but what was his response to all the things that had happened to him?

Job 1:20-22

²⁰ Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. ²¹ And he said:

“ Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
²² In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

satan's challenge to God claiming that Job would curse God utterly went crashing down. Job had his trust in God instead of material goods. As we advance in our christian walk, we tend to sidetrack from the very very thing that is most important in our christian walk. Our relationship with God. Our God is a God who gives and takes away, to create more space for better things in the future.

I want Job's very faith that despite all the ups and downs, despite all the oppositions and disappointments in my life. I will hang on to something that is greater than myself. A strength that cannot be matched up to any body builder in this world. Let me be the number one top ten most wanted list on satan's list man! Lord, teach me.
